Tip Tuesday! In a rush...but still want to exfoliate?

Skincare Tips & ProductsChelsea CavenderComment

We are all busy people. For most, the skincare product use "rules"...use this in the shower, use this in the bath only, use this at the sink, use this after cleansing, use this once a week, use this twice a day, etc. is overwhelming!

One product that is easy to use are exfoliant scrubs, a.k.a. scrubs, exfoliants, exfoliators, or scrubby stuff. What I like about exfoliant scrubs is that it is up to your skin and your preference how and how often you use them. If you are just getting into (or maybe just entertaining the idea of getting into) forming a skincare regimen, adding an exfoliant scrub is a great place to start.

Exfoliant scrubs help smooth & soften skin by removing old dead skin cells (who needs those anyway?) and allowing moisturizers, including the oils in the scrub itself, to penetrate the skin more deeply. They also help with blemishes, wrinkles, post breakout marks, clogged pores, hyper-pigmentation, dry skin, and more.

You can use exfoliant scrubs in the shower, bath, and at the sink. You can scrub using your hands, a washcloth, natural sponge, or loofah (don't go overboard if you use a scrubbing assistant--easy does it), or dissolve directly in the water if taking a bath. Normally you cleanse skin, use the exfoliant scrub, and then rinse.

However...

The best thing about exfoliant scrubs is that if you are in a rush, but still want to exfoliate...just add to your cleanser or body wash and scrub once. That saves you half the time!

I recommend using an exfoliant twice a week on your face and up to every other day on dry body areas like hands, feet, knees, and elbows.

Just keep scrubbing! :-)

What is your favorite way to use an exfoliant scrub?

Nice to "meet" you!

About SLATHERlotionsChelsea CavenderComment

Hello all and welcome! Nice to "meet" you. My name is Chelsea and I am the Founder & Chemist/Mixologist behind SLATHERlotions. How did I get to where I am today?

Well...

I have always loved science and nature, which inspired me to pursue a degree in Plant Biology. During college, I tended a vaccine research greenhouse—which made me appreciate the beauty of plants and how powerful they can be. I have also had a love for cooking for as long as I can remember...naturally, this led me to enjoy my Chemistry classes and “cooking” in a lab setting as well.

After college, I worked as a R&D Chemist at Gold Canyon Candles, formulating candles and was introduced to the world the fragrance and personal care. Then, I continued my journey as a R&D Chemist at Australian Gold, this time developing tanning lotions and skincare formulas for products sold at salons, as well as celebrity private labels for both salons and stores. I learned so much about personal care ingredients, fragrance, packaging and marketing....but I yearned to have my involvement in the whole product from an idea to reality, not predominately formulation and testing.

So,  when my company relocated  1700 miles away & I didn’t want to make the move....it dawned on me that I should start my own company and combine my love of plants, chemistry, product development, and making from the heart....and so, SLATHERlotions was born. These are my passions and I am excited to share them with you!

In a sea of products that are available at stores/online with catchy packages, crazy claims, and crazy prices to match…. how can you know what’s best for you? After swimming through store aisles myself, scanning countless labels trying to find skincare products that will work for me, I realized there is no personalization available to the average person and the needs of their skin.

I love how fun and a treat people look at skincare products as, and I wanted high quality and effective skincare products to be affordable luxury that everyone can't help but love. SLATHERlotions products are formulated with specific skin types and the needs of skin in mind…using my knowledge about skin structure, anti-aging, smoothing fine lines, and the nutrients your skin needs to look its best and turn back the clock. Ingredients that are natural, beneficial, and easy to pronounce. Products can be customized to your specific skin needs and allergies. No need to continue scanning hundreds of labels in the store beauty aisles hoping to find personal care products that will work for you.

This blog will combine the two types of cooking as I post about all the lovely things I mix at home in my lab (and by lab I am referring to our office that I use as a mini lab) & kitchen. Things don't always turn out perfectly...I have burned muffins, splattered lotion on myself, the walls & ceiling, and more over just the past week alone. But that is all part of the process and part of life. Just remember, keep on mixing and...

CHEM IS TRY!
